Medieval pilgrims from England, Ireland and Scandinavia sailed to the Galician ports of Ferrol and A Coruña and walked inland from there. The Ferrol start is 120 km, just over the 100 km threshold for a Compostela, which makes this the shortest qualifying route and an obvious choice for a first Camino or a single week.
The walking is rolling rather than flat, through eucalyptus plantations, oak woods and estuary towns. It is quiet by Galician standards, though it has grown busier each year, and the long stage over the Hospital de Bruma moorland is the one day that demands respect.
