This is the epilogue route. It leaves Santiago westward for Cape Finisterre, the headland Roman geographers took for the western limit of the world, then turns north along the coast to the sanctuary at Muxía. Its pre-Christian ancestry is undisguised; pilgrims have been walking to this shore for far longer than they have been walking to Santiago.
Because it runs away from Santiago rather than towards it, it earns a Fisterrá or Muxiana certificate rather than a Compostela. Four or five days of Galician hills, river valleys and finally the Costa da Morte, with the tradition of watching the sun set into the Atlantic from the lighthouse at the end.
